Strictly Custom Homes and Remodeling

Many builders these days work with "packaged homes" because it's easier. Not Curtis Bailey, one of the few truly custom builders who specializes in new homes and remodeling.

"People have an idea of what they like," says Bailey, owner and chairman of the board who runs the company with his son, Kevin, CEO, and a staff of 36, which includes the employees of the Bailey-owned Tru-Value store next to its offices. "We Work from plans drawn out with pencil, sometimes from a book, and always do customizing based on what the customer wants."

The company, in business since 1962 , builds an average of 15 homes a year. Prices for a custom home can range from $200,000 to $600,000 and more. The firm is also involved in property development and has sold out two communities - Retreat Village and Country Estates - and is now actively selling Country Estates South, Timber Ridge and Hilltop Acres, all located close to the company's headquarters along Route 895.

Whether developing property or building homes, Bailey believes in "doing a good job to begin with," then if problems arise, "going back and taking care of them".

I still get excited every time we start a new project," says Bailey. "I have the same anticipation as the homeowner does - I never get tired of that"
